Creating spice blends at the Cooking Academy - Hertfordshire

Indian cooking classes in Hertfordshire

All time favourite class today – The One day Indian cookery class here in Rickmansworth.  We’ll be covering the all important ‘Spice Trail’ which is a comprehensive guide of the herbs and spices used in Indian cookery

This is an ‘all senses’ experience, where the participants will be touching, feeling, smelling, tasting, each and every spice to familiarise themselves with the taste and aroma to be able to distinquish the flavours in food.  The delegates will then go on to create several spices blends.  This is alchemy at its best – where the science of food crosses over into taste and flavours and creates a food feast.

Our aim is to get the delegates involved in ‘real cooking’ to grasp the true essence authentic food; following a recipe is one thing but getting underneath it, is what we do in our classes here at The Academy.  This is the real deal getting down and dirty – sleeves rolled up.

Indian Cookery class in Hertfordshire

Indian Cookery classes for beginners

If you’re beginning to dabble with spices and herbs to make your own ‘Indian’ then this course is for you.

It is a very gentle but intense look at Authentic Indian cookery.  It dispels the myths surrounding Indian food and its so called complexities.  You’ll throw away any remaining  jars, you’ll restock your spice cupboard and you’ll look forward to coming home to ‘cook your fit’ with our beginners guide to real indian food!

Not only that, most importantly this class will also change your mind set from the sloppy curry scene to real Indian dining – gourmet style just like the myriad of British Indian families eat every night.

Advanced Indian Cookery class

Indian Cookery class – Advanced – Authentic Indian Cookery classes

Today I’ve been taking students further along their journey into the delights of authentic Indian Cookery!

This is their 2nd Indian Cookery class,  at least, with us here at The Cooking Academy, and tonight they will likely share the spoils of the day with their family and friends… if they’re not too exhausted from their experience.   It’s a very enjoyable class with no more than 5 delegates, giving it a certain intimacy of a dinner party, getting to know people better and sharing clips of their lives and their cooking.  It is a labour of love – I can truely say and I enjoy every class.

I am glad to say so many students come back to after their first cookery class with us, to learn more.  That makes it a real honour for us here at the Academy.   Cookery classes are more than just a gift experience!  It is a journey and here at the Academy we work hard to ensure our customers enjoy every minute of it and are inspired to cook.

Cookery team building events for Roche Products at The Cooking Academy

Cookery team building for Christmas - The Roche Way

Roche products based in Welwyn wanted a Christmas party with a difference, something that that had a team building element and would facility more than drinking and a meal.

All hands to the deck

They decided upon a cookery team building event at The Cooking Academy.   The objective was to have fun, learn something that they could take away for their personal experience and be together as a group.

Here at The cooking Academy we put together corporate cookery events for our clients to have an all inclusive, fun teambuild that also provides a personal growth element that individuals will be able to take away and do for themselves in their domestic lives.

We created a Christmas theme that would give the delegates alternative recipes for Christmas dinner and all the trimmings that go with it.

Cookery Corporate Team building

Sushi chef at work

Corporate cookery team building Event for SAS Technology

Just finished our cookery team building event for a technology company SAS.  Just 10 guys learning Japanese cuisine and finishing with our Liquid Chefs, Dane and Adam.

The day started with sake and a selection of Japanese canapes , a taster of what the team were about to learn to cook.  Then a sushi and sashimi masterclass followed by a  range of noodles, dumplings and salads to accompany their fish course.

The challange was to re create the dishes demonstrated by our chefs, and create an additional food platter to present to the judges.  The team were scored on their team efforts, time management, creativity as well as their individual performance.   Lots of funny stories to tell and some very interesting sushi….

The afternoon was then topped by our Liquid Chefs demonstrating and making funky cocktails, all the cameraderie of the cocktail bar.

A fantastic event, very well done to the entire team for great participation.

Corporate cookery classes with The Cooking Academy

Corporate Cookery Classes

We’re building teams today, for the future.

The Corporate Challange

A group of people have a shared revenue target of £50 Million, they need each others co-operation to deliver the end product.   Whilst they work together they don’t actually share the same office or the same country!

The Action Plan

So today they’re going to bond.  Get to know each other and share a little space! Cooking for each other and themselves and they have approximately 1 hour in which to make a three course meal and set the table, they have 3 per team and 4 teams. Communication, cameraderie and cohesion will win the task, bringing together hearts and minds. Team building at its very best.

Corporate Cookery Events

At The Cooking Academy we run a number of corporate cookery programmes to help organisations work more effectively together.  We facilitate a place where people can bring down the normal barriers, get to know each other and work together to complete a task of humanity and shared pleasure – to cook for each other.

We can provide large corporate cooking events, smaller teams of 8 to 15 departmental groups or just a few people small groups of 5 or 6 for a special events or incentive.  Whatever the objective our location in Rickmansworth or other off site locations in London and the home counties can put together a very extraordinary event for you.

Cookery class for kids & teenagers

I’m been teaching five fifteen years olds to Cook!  It been non stop all the way, but the enthusiam and interest and results have been worth all the work.  They are actually potential chef’s or food experts in some way or another… what at the age of ffifteen you say!    For the age, their palettes are pretty amazing, but actually in their case it is sheer interest.  It gives them a buzz and a tremendous sense of  purpose to be in control of something and want to achieve perfection.  Its mind blowing.

Whats also amazing is just the extraordinary experiences of food and cooking they all have a t such a young age.  Two of ther student today have come from fairly previledged backgrounds so cooking is a great hobby and a passion.  For the others I think its been survival, sanity and self worth, which I admire with every inch of me!

I’ve had a  great day! enjoyed every minute of it and with each class – I learn something else about life and people!

OK well now its back to the spice blends……..
