Why choose cooking as your recruitment and selection event of choice?

Interviews can be sterile, with textbook questions being answered with textbook responses, leaving neither party as engaged or excited as they could be.

Cooking creates an unexpected environment, taking candidates out of the interview mentality and resorting to type, allowing their real traits to be observed.

Providing candidates the opportunity to cook a meal in a team under a tight deadline is similar to the way they would approach a  project in a work  environment. The event allows you to assess how each candidate may perform in a team task – do they take a leadership stance, are they organised, do they resolve conflict or maybe they’re a perfectionist!

Unlike many traditional group assessment events, cooking is genuinely fun and the hands-on activity will enable delegates to revert to instinct. Even unsuccessful candidates will leave the day being inspired by your company and assessors have a much better chance of selecting the right person for the role.

Itinerary

Our events are very flexible and can be tailored to better demonstrate the key characteristics you are assessing, for example testing creativity, tenacity, timekeeping, teamwork, leadership etc.

We can work with the observing team to create specific situational tests, to help assess specific personality types, behaviours, or dynamics within set frameworks.

Our events can last from as little as 2 hours through to an evening or whole day, with a typical example below:

  • Welcome and introductory presentation.
  • Team challenge and menu assessment – get into teams.
  • Team planning session to prepare for the task ahead
  • ‘Ready Set Cook’ – 75 minutes of cooking to complete the challenge.
  • Stop cooking and judging of dishes.
  • Teams sit down to eat together and give group feedback.

Our events are entirely managed by our team of chefs and event managers; we provide all necessary equipment, ingredients and even a mobile kitchen if required, so all you can focus on the assessing.

Alternatively, we can also provide HR facilitators and consultants to provide a full in house service.  Please ask for further information about this service.

Reviews

Just to say a big thank you for another successful team-building event. I was delighted to see how the event really brought them all together to work to achieve the tasks and they all really enjoyed themselves and have been buzzing about it in the office ever since. In fact it’s generated a lot of interest in cooking and they’re all keen to practise the recipes at home.”

Liz Barber – DLL Financial Solutions
