In December The Cooking Academy team welcomed Active International to our Langley venue in Slough, for a fun and festive team building cookery event.
Active International is a global company with almost 1000 employees enabling the marketing and advertising industry to achieve more from its assets. Kelly Davies from Active International took on the task of delivering a Christmas party with a difference for her team of 40. Kelly wanted to step away from the usual dinner or evening out and let her team get stuck into something. Which would be much more fun but that would also be a level playing field for all.
Step in a cookery Christmas team building party! Cooking is usually an activity reserved for personal time with family or loved ones. Bringing something which is reminiscent of home life into a team environment really breaks down professional barriers and enables fantastic collaboration between colleagues and a perfect opportunity for team building.
Our CEO and founder, Kumud Gandhi, welcomed the team with tea, coffee, and mince pies, followed by an introduction to ‘The Alchemy of Food’. The presentation introduced our guests to the “spice trail” and a deeper understanding of why we cook with certain ingredients and combinations. This got the group engaged and thinking about cooking whilst introducing the food and spices they would be cooking with.
The organizer announced the task to the primed and ready delegates. The organizer split the group into eight teams and challenged them to cook a three-course Thai meal and compete for the accolade of the best team. Over the next 1.5 hours teams had to organise, plan and cook their meals testing their leadership and teamwork skills, to complete their task and achieve the top spot on the leader board.
Team ‘Ko Tao’ reigned supreme expertly led by Managing Director, Mark Chippendale. The team won top points for their organisation, teamwork, taste, and cleanliness.
After tucking into the fruits of their labours. The delegates were expertly led through a wine and cheese tasting with our sommelier. Discovering some wonderful wines from France along with complimentary cheeses – delicious!
