Our Covid-19 Strategy

Covid policy – updated 4th January 2021

Safeguarding, protecting you, and ready to welcome you back when we can!

Following the changes in advice from Sage and the Government announcement on 19th December The Cooking Academy will be postponing all its scheduled classes for January 2021 and we will continue to review this on a week-by-week basis in accordance with the government’s advice in this matter.

Those of you who were booked to attend classes in January will be notified of the postponement by email with the opportunity to rebook for further dates once we have further information.   Naturally, where classes have been postponed due to Covid 19 the expiry date of these vouchers will be extended by the corresponding time and for those customers who are shielding, we will be happy to extend the vouchers until you have had the vaccination and it is safe for you to mix with others.

As soon as we have any further news on the restrictions and changes to our operation in this matter, we will update you accordingly and we will start to offer further new dates for you to reschedule classes.

We know this is a very difficult time and we thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter; please be reassured that we have our customers’ best interest at heart and very much look forward to welcoming you back and sharing our cookery skills with you.

In the meantime, we are running a number of virtual cookery classes and hope you will be able to join us to keep you cooking and sharing the gift of cooking.

In the run up to and on the day of your visit we will be implementing the following control measures which support our reopening ‘Risk Assessment’:

  • Ask all attendees to complete a ‘Health Declaration’ document about their health and contact with others 5 days prior to attending, to be updated on arrival before entering the Academy.
  • On arrival we ask that you wear a face covering as per government guidelines, this may then be removed once hands are wash and you are seated at your work station
  • To monitor everyone’s temperature before entering the Academy.
  • Once in the premise you will be asked to wash your hands for the prescribed 20 seconds and continue doing so throughout the day at appropriate times.
  • Provide suitable social distancing measures where possible with an optional face protection mask for the entire duration of your time at The Academy.
  • All equipment, workstations and general premises will be sanitised prior to your arrival.
  • Each delegate will have their own separate cooking stations as was previously the case.
  • There will be no shared ingredients or passing of equipment between attendees.

Q&As

Do we have to wear a face mask? As per government guidelines it will be mandatory for you to wear a face mask on arrival until you are seated at your island where you can remove your mask as you will be eating and drinking throughout your experience.

Will hand sanitiser be provided? Yes we will have hand sanitiser available for everyone to use on their cooking islands.

Will we need to wear gloves? No, we ask that you do not wear gloves. As suggested by the WHO, the use of hand sanitiser and washing of hands is more effective in the prevention of spreading the virus rather than wearing gloves.

Does everyone have to social distance? The kitchen is laid out in order for participants to respect social distancing rules. Our chefs will go round during the class to help customers while maintaining these guidelines to the best of their ability.

Will you be taking any precautionary tests on arrival? We will be checking everyone’s temperature with our contactless thermometer on arrival in order to limit the risk of spreading the virus. Please be aware that if your temperature is above 37.5C we will not be able to allow you into the cookery school.
