Gram flour also known as besan is made of ground chickpeas, so pale yellow in colour and powdery. It is a staple ingredient throughout the Middle East and Asia. Gram flour has more density than plain flour as it is unrefined and so retains its earthy flavour and is used in sweet and savoury dishes such as pakoras, flatbreads and laddu’s. It can be used to thicken a dish but should be roasted thoroughly to allow the nutty aromas to release.
It is great gluten free alternative to plain flour. Our gram flour is sourced from India – the largest producers of chickpeas.
