Onion Seeds are also known as black cumin seeds or nigella seeds (from the Latin word niger to mean black), and in India they are known as Kalonji seeds.
The earliest record of its cultivation and use come from ancient Egypt. In Indian cooking they are often used with Bengali recipes or with breads such as naan breads, flatbreads or puris. Onions Seeds pair particularly well with fish, prawns and paneer dishes too, where they are used like mustard seeds. Whilst they don’t quite pop as mustard seeds, take time to infuse them in oil for a few seconds before adding other ingredients.
Our onion seeds are sourced from Turkey.
